DO YOU HAVE A SNACK FOR ME ????

i was stuck in traffic on the FDR and  i had a visitor ....... i think he was looking for a snack.... he hung out with me for a few minutes doing the seagull dance and bobbing his head at me ....and when he realize i had nothing for him he gave up and moved to the car behind me ... just made me laugh

FOOD STYLIST DISCLAIMER

i am not a photographer ... i do not know how to determine exposure... i feel exposed some days but that is all together different...... i do not know how to "LIGHT" ... lighting to me is flipping the switch on the wall..... i am a FOOD STYLIST and i only post photos for reference and so you can peek into the mind that is mine.....i was cleaning up my photos and noticed i tend to take pictures by mistake all the time ... and some of them seemed a little artful so i thought i would share... but remember my photo skills are questionable at best and it appears that i like shoes

FROZEN GRILLED CHEESE ????

on the rare occasion that i am in the grocery for myself and i am not "dragging my wagon" so to speak... i take time to look for new products, just to see what is out there .... and i have no words... but i had to share..... i  am just not sure if the producer of the frozen grilled cheese sandwich is a genius or if it says to the world .....we are too stupid or lazy to even make a grilled cheese sandwich.......and because it is American cheese does that mean there will be a product extension to other cheeses  ??? ....... OK that was harsh...  i will keep my eyes on this one and see if it is as successful as the frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwich.....but i have to say..... the food styling and the packaging looks good .....it caught my eye

TOM DOUGLAS, THE DAHLIA BAKERY COOKBOOK, CBS THE DISH, AND SUPER STORM SANDY

one of the nicest ( rather he agrees or not ) chefs out there, smart and funny ... a success that all new chefs can aspire to....but not even the best chefs, and their new book tour, are a match for super storm Sandy..... he has a new cookbook out , and all the recipes that I baked out of it were amazing.... the recipes were a pleasure to follow ( no tricky steps).. but most of all  the coconut creme pie was to die for.... and as a matter of fact.... the whole pie on this table disappeared to the control room, never to be seen again..... unfortunately his book tour was cut short by super storm Sandy ....... even so it does deserve attention.... good stories to go with great recipes and some really unusual items that are really worth the second look..... check out the cornbread stuffing it was sooooo good ...and the 2 pound salmon filet ( thanks Peter's Fish Market for looking out for me )  for the recipes check out http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57541107/the-dish-tom-douglas-salmon-with-shiitake-relish/

RED LOBSTER AND A NEW MENU

one of the many things i do is a broadcast called a satellite media tour...
20 stations...20 interviews ......all over the country in 4 hours.... this week Red Lobster rolled out a new menu and i have to say ..... it was not your old Red Lobster.... the challenges included early mornings, 4 hours of broadcast time and no prep kitchen.... but i had a great team from Red Lobster and that made it go smoothly .... think camping inside....... so the notion that being a food stylist is glamorous, comes to a end ... but i would not trade my job..... just a few pics from behind the scenes.......this all made me think of my assistant Kelly and her love for cheddar bay biscuits ... and yes they still have them !!!  Kelly has gone on to be a  successful portrait and tabletop photographer... but i will always think of her when i see the cheddar bay....

check out the finished project on you tube

and if the tour is going to last 4 hours .....don't forget the fake ice

JOSE GARCES AND CBS THE DISH

Jose Garces was on CBS The Dish this fine first week in October and one of his dishes was fava bean and english pea salad...... and for those in the know...... these are spring and maybe summer time items ... but being a food stylist means you have to somehow beat the seasons ......and so off i go to all the regular stops and no luck.... then came the off the beat stores and no luck....i found frozen but no fresh ....sooooooo.... i resorted to the rail yard stores ( a very colorful neighborhood )  and i found these great fall items.... then in the last stop i found the fresh favas ......some days it is all about the hunt and just plain not giving up but i got to see these beauties along the way

DRIVING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE, LOU MANNA AND SEVIROLI PASTA

i was just driving down the new jersey turnpike ... trying not to get run over by trucks ... when a truck with my food styling came flying by .... i have to admit it was pretty cool seeing your work THAT BIG.... and the photography team with Lou Manna is the best .... it was a great job and now it is amazingly BIG

I LOVE THIS COUNTRY AND THE HOME GOODS

during a trip to the Home Goods ... one of my favorite stores..... it is like hunting for the urban people of this world........ i realized that the country must be looking up because everything was sooo very sparkly  and shiney  ( not sure this is a word but you get my meaning )  ...... and as i cheerfully left with my purchased treasures..... i  also realized that sometimes the rural hunter comes to the big city to hunt as well  ... by the way .....parked in the first row and did not even bother to shut the windows... would you have broken into that truck ... i don't think so

ED BROWN AND CBS THE DISH

these yummy twice baked potatoes where part of Ed Brown's meal on CBS THE DISH and they were so worth every mouthful ... it seems twice baked potatoes are making a comeback ....

CBS THE DISH AND CHEF MIKE LATA

this wonderful chef from Charleston brought some great seafood recipes on saturday in the last minutes of summer and i was so glad i got to spend them with him...because i was getting into traffic on the west side highway on the way home.... i switched on 1010wins am radio to find out why..... and the announcer at 10:41 am asked " what are you doing with your last minute of summer ( fall started at 10:42 am in nyc) , and i screamed with pain "i am stuck in traffic on the west side highway for my last minute of summer"... well i like fall but we all know what comes next........

The Dish and John DeLucie

john delucie  is a wonderful person , talented chef and the proprietor of two of Manhattan's hottest restaurants, The Lion and Crown .... and he is a master of the twitter .... if you have been to my twitter site you will understand that i am so very bad at it.....  this world is now online 24/7 and tweeting is everywhere...

but there is something i know ..... his pasta is amazing ........ google CBS The Dish and get the recipe .... it is worth finding the San Marzano Whole peeled tomatoes to make this pasta dish.... you can find them online if your store does not carry them, but they make the difference.... because if a recipe has just a few ingredients ...make sure they are the best you can get ....so the flavors shine thru

SPRING TIME IN NEW YORK AND WONTON SOUP NOODLES

i took a walk with a dear friend on a beauty spring day ... and i have to remember  you can always learn something new every day if you just pay attention ...... there is a purpose for everything.... it just might not be quickly apparent.....and this was my pearl of wisdom for this beautiful spring day.....homemade wonton noodles for your soup are a delightful addition ... but in our modern times some shops use the prepackage tasteless variety and until today i did not know their purpose...  a gentleman who was also enjoying this beautiful spring day taught me that peacocks think they are tasty treats .... and he shared his booty of crispy noodles so we could have a monument with a peacock as well ... what a great day
