BON APPETIT POP UP CAFE

I was at the bon appetit pop up cafe for "fashion week"  in NYC at the Lincoln Center yesterday ( styling a live remote for GDNY ) and the food was amazing.... i do not know if models eat but if you are a real person it is well worth the trip .... this week only ....and the venue is larger than past years so it is not as crowded  "BON APPETIT"  ........this  John DeLucie's Cauliflower Soup with Wild Mushrooms and it was amazing

SAY IT IS NOT SO .....FALL IS HERE

i went to the farmers market to get wild mushrooms for my monday project .... Good Day New York and the Bon Appetit Pop Up Cafe at Lincoln Center  ( the new home for Fashion Week ) ......... and look what i found ... they are beautiful and fashionable ... but they let me know the days are getting shorter and the leaves will be turning soon ... i am hanging on to the last days of summer as long as i can ..... i think i will go get a wild berry smoothie and pretend it is a beach day

A GPS ADVENTURE

I admit i was in a remote part of upstate new york but i questioned my GPS when it sent me here ....

but i went thru and got where i needed to go

A FULL CITY BLOCK

i was upstate again....a pass time for the city folk in the summer.....there are some beautiful areas in New York state that have nothing to do with NYC and should be experienced... one such experience is man made... and for a food person is the grocery... i was at wegmans ... ( the wholly grail of upstate food shopping ) and the things i saw...oh my...... first off the store goes on and on and on and on ... as wide and deep as a city block... and the products......oh my... the deli section is as large as some of the entire stores i shop in at home ... i was amazed not only do they have products i have never seen before and selection that is overwhelming but they sell things like suitcases and patio furniture ... and just a hint for those people who are not experienced at grocery shopping upstate ( it is a skill) ....when you arrive you select a meeting point ..... near the lottery machines or the " grab and go case" but never the bakery... that can be dangerous if you have to wait to long..... you will have muffins , bagels, breads, pizzas, cakes, pies, cookies, pastries .. oh my ... you get the point....all this so you do not have to be one of "those people" who have to get customer service to announce that you have lost a member of your group...... and can they come to the front of the store ( first time shoppers..... how embarrassing ) ....

a coke and a smile

i am not sure this is what the ad agency meant when they coined that phrase but it made me smile.... boulkville antigue show ...on of the largest fleas in the north... what great fun ....

say cheese

the quest for a perfect wedge...................... some days i get to work with quite glamorous people.... and some days i spend all day cutting the cheese.... for this job i took 6 pound blocks of blue cheese and cut them down..and cut them down.. and cut them down... until i had the most perfect wedges....the job was a great success ....but i smelled like old feet by the time the day was done.... everyday is different and never dull ...but sometimes a little smelly

new bag smell

the new bag smell is the most exciting thing... it is all in the eyes ( or nose) of the beholder

upstate new york

in your travels you just run across something that just makes you giggle... when i saw this i almost fell over ... there are just no words ... it is amazing what a dollar and a dream can buy you 24/7

dessert at the met

i just spent a belated birthday day at the Met with another belated birthday celebrator ( just a good excuse to spend a day doing what you want to do without guilt) ...... love all the beautiful and inspirational things to see at the Met ..but most of all our stop for some tea and a snack found this amazing key lime tart ... take time to enjoy the arts and if you go to the Met have the key lime tart ......you will not be sorry .... yes all the beautiful things to see and the only picture i took was of the tart

farmers market in syracuse

i love this time of year when the weather is warm and the farmers markets have the most wonderful things....... just sipping a morning cup of coffee ( or three or five) and walking around the market ....makes my mind go to a happy place ... try it and buy something you have never had before... we had sugar plums with our coffee and they were delicious

las vegas uncorked

early this summer i went to las vegas for vegas uncorked and this delicious drink was served at one of the events, a peach bellini and i still day dream of having another... such a great event if you ever get a chance it is worth the trip to vegas

is the inside of your refrigerator color coordinated???? it would be if you had a food stylist...some days it is very hard to believe this is what i do for a living ....

well the city of NYC has been caught in a heat wave.... left a studio on Tuesday and the car thermometer proudly said 104..... but the good thing is that all this heat ripened my first tomato of the season .... bring on the heat

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY - as i drove upstate to have a swim in the pool and a bbq for the fourth..... i came around a curve getting into town and one of the first things i see is the hardware store and they have a sign out front that always advertises the newest and best ... for several years it has been "bear proof garbage cans".... it always makes me pause (really ...we need bear proof garbage cans??? ) ... but this year they advertised "bear proof garbage cans on wheels" .. all i could think of bears jumping for joy..... "snack wagons on wheels" .... i could see them pushing the cans like baby carriages off to a more private place to break the code and get the goodies .....

but on to my favorite bbq treat ... a friend of mine....he always makes cucumber salad and let me tell you it is the best i have ever put in my mouth.. ....i dream of those yummy summer morsels of crunchy goodness.... and i would give you the recipe ....but i have yet to figure out the secret family ingredients .... ( those family recipes can be the best and yummiest ) ... be it as it may ... i do not mind this at all because it gives us a great excuse to have another bbq and enjoy them again another day .....happy 4th

not food but funny

stuck on the FDR leaving the city yesterday... and the guy going 2 miles an hour next to me had this solution to boredom..... and he played some great jazz as well ... his concert lasted for about an hour and a half ...that drive should have been under 10 minutes... talk about taking the good with the bad ... he was great

frogs

today is memorial day and i am shopping for a segment on cbs in the morning and needed seaweed so off to the Asian market and next to the seaweed bin was these lovelys and trying to get seaweed with out upsetting the frogs was interesting .. you just never know what you are going to find

haven't packed yet but we are leaving everyone behind to fend for themselves pets included.....and we are in search of the bright neon lights and good food, ....no i should say great food ... last year i met so many interesting people from all over the usa and in fact all over the world , not to mention the fabulous meals and demos that we attended, sprinkle in a few great cocktail parties and a winning pull at the slot machine ... this sets the bar pretty high for this year .... guess i should put something in a suitcase vegas uncorked 6 days away

13 more days until vegas uncorked and i can not wait... i hope i am not disappointed last year was such a success... hopefully i will have much to post about
